Types of Breast Augmentation

Fat transfer augmentation and breast implants are two main types of breast augmentation. Except for these two categories, there are multiple options based on your desired goals from breast augmentation surgery and the way you want your breasts to look and feel. Pretreatment instructions

Clinical examination and tests:

Breast Augmentation Procedure steps

1. Anesthesia: The patient is given anesthesia (depending upon the patient’s requirements) at first. This can be done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia.
2. Incisions: The surgeon makes cuts known as incisions on either of these three areas: 

• On the crease beneath the breast (inframammary)
• Around the nipples (periareolar)
• Under the arm ( trans axillary).

These incisions separate breast tissue from underlined muscle tissue and connective tissue of the chest which results in the creation of a space or a pocket in this gap.

3.         Placement of implants : The surgeon places implants in this pocket with silicone breast implants.
4.         Closure of incisions : After placing the implants, the surgeon closes the incisions with the help of stitches or sutures. The wounds are further covered with a bandage and fixed with surgical tapes.

Post-Surgery instructions

Follow these instructions after the surgery :

• Mark your checklist for medication activity and wound care as directed by the surgeon. 
• Don’t lift any heavy objects and avoid doing physical exercise. 
• Wear a sports bra or pressure garments to minimize the risk of swelling and maintain the shape of your breasts. You have to wear it for at least 4-6 weeks.
• Lay and sleep straight on your back for around 2 weeks. 
• Keep the treatment area dry and check for any post-surgical infection or complication. 
• Do not smoke or consume alcohol until the wound is completely healed 
• Ensure optimal sleep and a balanced diet for proper recovery.

Recovery after a Breast Augmentation surgery

Here is what your post-surgery recovery looks like:

There may be mild pain in the treated area for 1-2 weeks. You can take prescribed painkillers to control the pain. 

• You may feel stiffness in your chest for a few days. 
• The dressing and stitches are removed after 7 days of the surgery or they may be left on if they are absorbable. 
• Avoid aggressive physical activity and exercise for 2 weeks. 
• Initially, it takes 4 to 6 weeks to recover however complete recovery takes relatively more time. You can resume your work within 3-5 days.
